Why Aren’t My Facebook Posts Being Seen?
Why Aren’t My Facebook Posts Being Seen?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions I hear from clients. If you’re using Facebook for business, you’ve probably noticed a decline in both reach and engagement as you look at the insights for your page. You aren’t imagining it. There are a lot of different factors that contribute to this decline in engagement. Let’s take a look.
There’s A Lot More Content
This is a big deal. Facebook has more than 1.3 BILLION daily users, and they’re growing consistently each year. If Facebook abandoned the algorithm and showed each user every post from every page and friend they followed, the results would be overwhelming. The algorithm is actually pretty necessary. Facebook monitors the posts and friends and pages you interact with and show you more of the same. With a lot more content out there, unless people are actively looking at your page, chances are, your posts aren’t even making it to their news feed.
Pages Are Willing To Pay To Be Seen
Facebook is one of the best and most affordable ways to reach a large group of people. If you aren’t running ads, you’re able to put your business information out there for FREE. If you do choose to use ads (and you probably should), the cost is still as low as you choose (starting at $5.00). Placing ads is a no-brainer and when some pages are willing to pay to reach your audience, Facebook is going to favor their content. The moral of the story: Use ads. They’re cheap and easy to set up and you’ll see a return.
You aren’t posting quality CONTENT
There’s a possibility that your posts are just…not that good. In an age where content is king, if your own posts don’t pack a punch, there’s no point. People want posts that are informative, entertaining, or give them a real idea of who you.
So How can i reach people?
There are still ways to reach more people – even if you aren’t willing to pay.
- Make your posts personal. As a small business owner or entrepreneur, you will get more attention if your posts reveal something about who you are or what makes your business different. Post behind-the-scenes pictures, information about your day-to-day operations, or anything else that helps your followers feel like they have inside info.
- Video…or, even better, LIVE Video. Social media users engage more with videos than any other content. And they’re even more likely to engage with live video than with something pre-recorded. If you choose to upload a video you’ve already recorded, make sure to upload it directly to Facebook, rather than sharing from YouTube or Vimeo. Facebook prefers native content and will show videos uploaded to Facebook first.
- Offer incentives. Run a contest or offer a discount to customers who like and share your page. Facebook shows users posts they think they’ll like or engage with. If you can get your existing followers to like and share your content, the more likely it it that Facebook will show your content to others.
